Lead the people strategy behind our $500M campaign to transform health care

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director, Human Resources to lead our people strategy during a defining moment in our organization’s history. Our 70+ person team is delivering the largest fundraising campaign our city has ever seen— $500 million in support of The Ottawa Hospital’s Campaign to Create Tomorrow .

Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, the Director, Human Resources will oversee all aspects of human resources and organizational effectiveness, ensuring our people, culture, and systems are aligned to deliver extraordinary impact—today and for years to come.

POSITION SNAPSHOT

Position Type :

Full-time Permanent (37.5 hours per week)

Annual Salary :

The salary range for this position is $107.8k-$157.1k with a current hiring range of

$107.8K to $131.8K

Experience :

A minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a strategic / leadership role.

Vacation : 4 weeks per annum

Pension and Medical Benefits : Includes medical benefits (semi-private hospital, extended health care, vision care, dental care); life insurance; employee and family assistance program; defined benefits pension, and more.

Location :

Hybrid, with onsite work conducted out of our Civic Campus office (737 Parkdale Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario)

Languages : English essential. French an asset

WHAT WOULD MY JOB LOOK LIKE?

Human Resource leadership :

Lead all HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, total rewards, performance management, organizational effectiveness, culture, and workplace health and safety.

Ensure HR strategies, policies, and practices are fully aligned with the Foundation’s mission, goals, and campaign priorities.

Balance immediate organizational needs with long-term workforce resilience and sustainability.

Serve as a trusted advisor and coach to leaders on all people-related matters.

Engagement, Culture and Recognition :

Champion a high-performance culture grounded in engagement, excellence, and inclusion.

Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that strengthen collaboration and belonging.

Sustain and enhance the Foundation’s reputation as an employer of choice.

Talent & Development :

Oversee recruitment and onboarding strategies to attract and integrate top talent.

Partner with leaders on workforce planning, succession, and professional development.

Lead the design and delivery of organization-wide learning and development initiatives.

Rewards and compensation :

Maintain and evolve competitive total rewards and compensation programs aligned with the non-profit market.

Lead a metrics-driven performance management framework that recognizes and rewards high performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Progressive

senior leadership experience in Human Resources

, with responsibility across the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, employee relations, total rewards, performance management, organizational effectiveness, and workplace health and safety.

Proven

experience partnering with executive leadership and people leaders , providing strategic counsel, coaching, and sound judgment on complex people and organizational matters.

Demonstrated

ability to lead through growth, change, or transformation , building scalable people systems that support both short-term performance and long-term organizational resilience.

Strong

track record in culture-building, engagement, and DEI leadership , with experience embedding inclusive practices into policies, programs, and leadership behaviours.

Expertise in talent strategy , including recruitment of high-performing teams, onboarding, succession planning, and professional development in a competitive talent market.

Experience designing and managing competitive total rewards and compensation frameworks , ideally within the non-profit, public, or broader purpose-driven sector.

Sound knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices , with the ability to ensure compliance while maintaining a people-first approach.

Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and influence skills , with the credibility to engage at all levels of the organization.

High degree of integrity, discretion, and emotional intelligence , enabling trust, fairness, and effective conflict resolution.

Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field ; and a professional designation (e.g.,

CHRP / CHRL

or equivalent)

Operational requirements :

Willingness and ability to work outside of regular business hours as required.
