Human Resources Manager

Permanent position - Ville St-Laurent

We are looking for a Human Resources Manager for a fast-growing family business, a leader in international transport with almost 300 employees across Canada. This strategic position, based in Montreal, offers a unique opportunity to structure and develop the HR function within a dynamic and expanding organization. The ideal candidate will be bilingual (English preferred), adapt well to a family culture and have experience in HR management.

The Human Resources Manager will be the company's highest HR level and will play a key role in the organization's growth, particularly through acquisitions. The position focuses on strategic HR initiatives, including talent development, performance management, compensation and employee relations management. The role offers a high degree of autonomy and development potential. This person will manage an HR Coordinator who has been in the job for almost 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement HR strategy in line with company growth objectives, including HR integration of acquisitions.
  • Oversee and develop career development programs, bonus negotiations and performance appraisals.
  • Standardize performance evaluation processes to ensure fairness.
  • Manage the drafting of job descriptions and salary negotiations for new recruits.
  • Develop and manage the internship program, including school relations and recruitment.
  • Participate in the annual re-evaluation of salaries in line with inflation and performance.
  • Lead or actively participate in internal committees, including internal affairs and employee communications.
  • Collaborate with management to optimize indirect compensation (including benefits and a retirement program).
  • Ensure cultural integration of new employees and maintain a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Occasional travel within Canada (Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver) is required for school relations.
  • Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years' experience in human resources management and 3 years in employee management, ideally acquired in a larger company to bring standardization of processes.
  • Bilingualism essential, with an excellent command of spoken and written English, due to the company's international activity and the linguistic diversity of its employees. Fluency in French is required to support employees in Quebec.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Autonomy and proactivity in managing HR projects.
  • Knowledge of federally regulated environments is an asset. Good knowledge of pan-Canadian labor law.
  • Experience with ADP payroll system is an asset (payrolls are managed externally).
