How You Will Make an Impact
Within this role the Team Lead will be responsible to regularly consult with our other shift Team Lead to touch base and ensure open communication and interteam cohesion is being maintained. Further the staff member who occupies this position will assist in what is needed to support the teams functioning each shift in regard to the day to operations of the Buchanan site.
The Buchanan House Team Lead enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients visitors and staff by providing timely support to the team and its functioning while also ensuring client care and Program standards are being upheld. This particular role places emphasis on leadership and supporting the frontline staff with daytoday tasks.
This role will provide service in a dignified and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd NonProfit Homes and which integrate antioppression / antiracism frameworks. This role will also provide fair and equitable services and supports to all clients in a manner that reflects their rights to privacy and dignity. This role would be under the supervision of the Program Manager at the Buchanan Site.
Providing support on the floor for staff included but not limited to : Debriefing Cofacilitating Conflict resolution but not performance management & Crisis intervention.
Leveraging your strong understanding of harm reduction practices to effectively engage with individuals in active use. You will take initiative in managing client flow and task assignments throughout shifts facilitating clinical and client decisionmaking and coordinating community resource gathering and dissemination. Additionally you will advocate for frontline staff with the management team build team cohesion and foster a positive staff culture. Regular checkins with frontline staff will help address potential issues such as selfcare and work stress while encouraging consultations with Program Management when needed.
Your responsibilities will also include assisting with housing and maintenance issues at the Buchanan site and handling Incident Reports including flagging and notifying the Director / Program Manager for any necessary followups. You will provide assist in scheduling coverage for sick callins participate in training new staff and support the navigation and assignment of field instruction responsibilities for students. Additionally you will contribute to quality improvement cycles at the Buchanan site and lead efforts in advocating and contacting community agencies to support clients facing barriers to accessing services consulting with the Program Manager as needed.
You will also ensure the provision of proper care to clients complete appropriate documentation and ensure that all shift tasks are finished. Collaborative work with community partners will be essential to enhance the programs success. You will perform various daytoday functions at the Buchanan site including meal preparation lifeskills support and site maintenance to ensure safety and smooth operation. Staying current with internal policies and procedures and sharing this information with other staff will be crucial to your role. You will also carry out any additional duties related to the Ministries of the Good Shepherd NonProfit Homes as directed by the Director or delegate.
You will disseminate information about the Centres services through outreach visits training sessions and calls. Representing Good Shepherd NonProfit Homes and HOMES Buchanan Site you will participate in community functions and report back to program staff. You will regularly review the schedule to address coverage needs with the Program Manager and ensure Team Meeting Minutes are accurately recorded and followup actions are timely.
You will observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
What Youll Bring to Our Team
- Minimum of a Bachelor degree in social work nursing or related field plus 2 years experience in a community mental health addictions justice system and / or supportive housing setting or equivalent (e.g. community college diploma in health or social services and 3 years experience in a community mental health addictions and / or crisis intervention setting; or at least five (5) years experience in a community mental health addictions and / or supportive housing settings).
- Previous experience in a Leadership role within a community mental health / addictions / supportive housing setting is preferred.
- CPR / First Aid certification and WHMIS training.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Responsibility Availability Adaptability Quality and Dignity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessment supportive housing and behavior management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act Substitute Decision Makers Act PHIPHA and other relevant Legislation with regards to Mental Health
- Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention deescalation strategies and interventions and an ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and respond to the emotional psychological and physical needs of individuals reacting to a crisis situation.
- Demonstrated ability to engage clients to participate in a problemsolving process while concurrently providing feedback support and motivation.
- Demonstrated ability to work from an intersectional antiracist / antioppressive framework.
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and agencies in a supportive capacity and use resources effectively.
