Job description

Emergency Medical Responder

Shared Health offers a unique opportunity to join our East Zone team through a sponsored Emergency Medical Responder training program. Are you ready to make a real difference in your community? If you thrive in fast‑paced environments, stay composed in challenging situations and want to start a rewarding career in health care, this program is for you. Not only will you gain valuable practical experience, but you will also have the opportunity for employment upon successful completion, setting you up for a fulfilling career in Emergency Medical Services.

In Manitoba, Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) are trained healthcare professionals who provide immediate, life‑saving care in emergency situations. As the first point of contact in many medical emergencies, EMRs work alongside trained paramedics, performing essential tasks such as patient assessment, trauma management, and monitoring vital signs to support stabilization of individuals. To practice, they must complete an accredited EMR program and be certified through the College of Paramedics of Manitoba, ensuring they meet the standards required for safe and effective pre‑hospital care.

Benefits

  • Sponsored training with employment opportunities in western Manitoba after successful completion of the program, COPR exam and certificate of practice with College of Paramedics of Manitoba (with one‑year return of service agreement)
  • Great starting wage and comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • 3 weeks paid vacation (accrued)
  • Mentored orientation and ongoing support, with opportunities for career progression and skill development

Eligibility Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proof of age (must be 18 years or older)
  • Valid Class V Manitoba driver’s license (minimum) and must obtain Class IV Manitoba driver’s license prior to employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six months prior to the start of the program.
  • Up‑to‑date immunizations and antibody testing (Hepatitis B, MMR, Pertussis, Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Varicella, Influenza, Tuberculosis)
  • English language proficiency requirements
  • Offer of employment is contingent upon obtaining certification to practice with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba and fulfilling all employment requirements set by Shared Health.
