Candidates must have a vocational certificate and a valid mechanic’s card issued by a recognized certifying authority. A few years of relevant experience as a mechanic as well as a Class 1 driver’s licence are also required. Sound knowledge of : spoken French and English, and written French;the techniques, practices and tools of the trade;how motorized equipment is constructed and how it functions;the proper functioning of dashboard instruments and various accessory mechanisms;all types of metals and alloys, and their properties;how to operate the motor and power equipment being used, and what its capacity and limitations are. Ability to : diagnose the causes of malfunction;use the right tools for the job;read diagrams;consult parts catalogues, understand maintenance manuals and, when needed, write up requests for supplies or equipment;operate the motor and power equipment being used.
