Our north-central Vancouver Island based client is looking for a Head of Finance with proven success in an industrial or construction type environment to join their team. This newly created role offers a marvelous opportunity to put your strong technical accounting experience, operationally focused FP&A modelling talents, ERP & digital tools proficiency, proven leadership and sense of humor to work!

Reporting to the CEO at this privately held BC company, you will be a member of the Senior Management team and work closely with the operating businesses assisting with their success.

Ultimately responsible for the accounting and financial reporting, you have the desire to use technology to streamline processes and enhance available reporting features. The end game is to automate wherever possible, improving both accuracy and timeliness, enabling you to spend more time on enhancing the profitability of the businesses. Key business focused accounting strengths will include project accounting, bid preparation, and FP&A.

Having a seat at the Leadership table, you are passionate about working with your Operational Peers and helping the business grow from a finance lens. Aside from capitalizing on current and future ERP system capabilities, you have advanced Excel & financial modelling skills and are curious about new technologies that could be a benefit.

Job Requirements :

• Canadian CPA designation in good standing
• 10+ years of progressive and relevant experience including responsibility for full cycle accounting in an operationally focused Controller role
• A proven ability to execute financial strategy to support sustainable growth
• Experience in a costing environment is ‘almost’ non-negotiable unless you can convince us otherwise. ‘Percentage of Completion’ knowledge is a strong differentiator as well as project accounting
• Strong understanding of ASPE
• Proficient with Excel, ERP systems and the use of technology
• ERP efficiency, with SAP Business One familiarity strongly preferred
• Demonstrable problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
• Proven ability to adapt communications for your audience
• The desire to work in a caring, employee-focused environment
