LaPrairie Crane, a member of LaPrairie Group of Companies, is seeking a full-time Service Writer to join their team in Fort St. John, BC.

LaPrairie Crane is one of Canada’s largest independent mobile-crane companies, servicing customers across Western Canada for over 40 years. They offer a comprehensive fleet of cranes, including all-terrain, boom trucks, carry decks, crawlers, hydraulic trucks, and rough terrain cranes, providing customers with one-stop project solutions for complex lifting needs.

As a Service Writer, you will work in a shop environment, managing repair orders, processing mechanical purchase quotes, and updating equipment maintenance information for LaPrairie Crane’s branches in Tumbler Ridge, BC; Fort St. John, BC; Grande Prairie, AB; and Grimshaw, AB. You will also support Capstan Hauling’s mechanical team in Grande Prairie, AB.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Populate repair concerns in Shop Planner.
  • Convert Shop Planner details into Repair Orders (RO).
  • Create repair order section plans and assign mechanics.
  • Request and approve purchase orders for parts and materials.
  • Create Vendor Repair Orders (VRO) as needed.
  • Verify and confirm unit meters, odometer readings, and CVIPS are correct and updated.
  • Update labor line items based on mechanic’s time within TMT.
  • Close ROs upon completion.

Quote Processing and Approvals

  • Review parts listings from NAPA quotes.
  • Confirm parts receipt by mechanics.
  • Verify and open repair orders in collaboration with mechanics.
  • Obtain approval for coded quotes from supervisors / VPs and process with NAPA.
  • Review NAPA integration for issues and correct as needed.
  • Other Responsibilities – Maintenance of Reports / Records

  • Upload CVIP / NDT documentation to AM, TMT, SharePoint, and review SSRS reports.
  • Update unit profile data and registration information as provided.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Required Skills

  • Experience in a mechanical shop or maintenance environment.
  • Experience with automotive, commercial, or heavy equipment maintenance management systems.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, data entry, editing, and typing.
  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED; post-secondary certification in mechanical, maintenance, or business administration preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize under deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and team attitude.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
