Job Description
Reporting to the Station Manager, the General Superintendent provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the successful execution of station construction activities within the Ontario Transit Group project.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide direction, guidance, and support to field leadership teams, including Site Superintendents and Discipline Project Managers, ensuring coordinated and efficient execution of all construction activities.
- Champion a collaborative work environment that promotes high performance, accountability, and continual improvement.
- Uphold and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all HSE policies and procedures.
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of safety protocols and conduct routine inspections to mitigate risks and prevent incidents.
- Lead by example in maintaining a safe, responsible, and compliant work environment.
- Supervise and monitor day‑to‑day station construction operations to ensure work is executed in alignment with project plans, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive construction excellence by ensuring quality standards, installation requirements, industry best practices, and project expectations are consistently achieved.
- Work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to develop detailed construction schedules, work plans, and resource strategies that support the achievement of key milestones.
- Proactively identify and address issues, conflicts, or delays, applying strong problem‑solving skills to maintain project momentum and minimize disruptions.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of construction progress, including daily activity reports, schedule updates, and records of any deviations from design.
- Provide clear and timely reporting to project management and relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor labor, material, and equipment usage to support effective cost control and budget adherence.
- Recommend and implement cost‑efficient solutions while upholding project quality and safety standards.
- Implement, benchmark, and enforce performance standards for self‑performed work, ensuring field personnel operate efficiently and effectively through coordination with Site Superintendents and Project Managers.
- Oversee and manage company and subcontractor shop areas, ensuring proper use, maintenance, and control of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Support workforce planning by assisting in coordination of manpower requirements, leveraging local networks and working in partnership with the HR department to balance staffing needs.
- Promote the company’s reputation by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical business practices in all interactions with clients, suppliers, employees, and the public.
- Adhere to and promote all company policies, procedures, and operational guidelines to ensure organizational consistency and compliance.
