Operational SupportAchieve Program Assistant (TS10)Strait Area CampusPort Hawkesbury, Nova ScotiaSchool of Access, Education and Language Recurring Full-time Position: Commencing approximately January 2, 2026. Please note that this position will have an annual layoff period between June and late August.Application deadline: 11:59PM, November 13, 2025Competition No: 2526-285Salary Range: $46,690.30 to $54,832.37 annually (pro-rated based on months worked) Responsibilities The Achieve program uses a student-directed model of delivery to further prepare students for life after high school and works with the principles of person-directed planning to support student growth and self-determination, wellness, employability and community engagement. Reporting to the Academic Chair, School of Access, Education and Language and as a member of the Achieve team, you will support the development of relationships and interdependence of Achieve students at home, work and in community.Learners in the Achieve Program take part in college life and experience hands-on activities and workshops in this transition program. They are guided through a person-centred process of developing personal goals and action plans for employment, independent living, and social networking. Classroom and campus experiences create a foundation for learning essential and employability skills. Applied learning experiences on campus and in the community provide job shadowing, and work experience.You will support the Achieve Coordinator and/or Employment Specialist in the daily activities of working with and supporting students to achieve the program outcomes. This may involve:participating in planning sessions with the Achieve Program Coordinator and/or Employment Specialistworking one-on-one with studentsworking with and/or leading small groups of studentsonsite mentorship in community and workplace settingsparticipating in the planning and implementing community outingssupporting the set up and maintenance of the classroom environmentsupporting the facilitation and leading small groups in topics that may include (but not limited to): cooking lab, budgeting, community involvement, self-advocacy and safety.You will work closely with employers, the business community and service providers. You will also provide support and guidance that will enable Achieve students to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for independent living. Qualifications Qualifications and Occupational Experience:The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant college diploma in social sciences or a related discipline. Experience and/or certification in adult education would be considered an asset.You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.You have demonstrated experience working with individuals with social and emotional issues and working with employers and supporting young people with disabilities in developing life skills and transitioning to independent living.Experience supporting the facilitation of workshops or small groups would be considered an asset.Experience supporting/providing service to post-secondary students would be considered an asset.Food handler's certification and experience in supporting others to learn basic meal preparation would be considered an asset.You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, e-mail, assistive technology programs, iPad, and Smart Phones.You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology, and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.Relevant Skills and Knowledge: You demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism.You possess excellent interpersonal skills and are able to interact at all levels of an organization.You are known for your superior customer service skills and are able to create a relationship of trust beyond the immediate interaction.Your superb team working skills enable you to contribute positively to a team environment.You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in supportive workplace strategies.You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills.You are a strong communicator.You have strong time management and organizational skills.You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to small group facilitation and community engagement.You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence.You are dedicated to life-long learning.You show a strong commitment to community involvement.
