Field Director – BC's Interior Plateau

MVP Talent Corp, an industry leader in professional corporate Search, is proud to have partnered with our well-respected client specializing in Archaeology.

The Field Director will oversee projects in BC’s Interior Plateau, with work extending across various regions of BC and Western Canada, along with opportunities for research. As our Field Director, BC, you’ll ensure the excellent, efficient, and effective execution of AIAs, PFRs, and Systematic Data Recovery in BC.

Must haves :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology
  • 5+ years' experience in BC archaeology
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Field Director in good standing with the Archaeology Branch of BC
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, ArcGIS
  • Prior related experience identifying areas of archaeological potential and sites
  • Ability to travel to locations for extended periods
  • Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather conditions and diverse / rugged terrain
  • Ability to perform manual labour, including hiking for extended distances (average 8 to 10 km per day), and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Strong oral and written communicator
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative
  • Ability to work cooperatively, support and coach co-workers in a positive team environment and share work expertise and knowledge

Nice-to-Have's :

  • Ideally able to pull permits in BC
  • Prior related experience with Argos / ATVs
  • Prior related experience making management recommendations for high-potential areas and previously recorded or unrecorded archaeological sites
  • Prior related experience with ArcGIS
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work steadily under pressure
  • A positive attitude and a belief in teamwork
  • Responsibilities :

    Ensure efficient and effective execution of fieldwork :

  • Effective field preparation
  • Coordinating logistics and ensuring alignment of staff with projects
  • Thorough understanding of project and project area
  • Leading and conducting fieldwork as per permit obligations (includes travel, hiking and subsurface testing)
  • Excellent data management, including note-taking and sketch mapping
  • Ensure efficient and effective execution of reporting :

  • Report writing that exhibits a strong understanding of government requirements and thorough completion of fieldwork
  • Management and delegation of tasks required to complete interim and final reports (GIS, cataloguing, site forms)
  • Maximizing customer experience :

    Project management (meetings, safety paperwork, logistics, client communications)

    Maximizing employee experience :

  • Leading by example and providing in-the-moment coaching on effective project management, archaeological methods, and theory.
  • Leading in safety by ensuring the safe and effective completion of tasks, including all safety paperwork
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Supervising crews on other permits
  • Cataloguing and artifact analysis
  • Industry knowledge : Stays current with professional and personal development from both a management and industry perspective.
