Contract Specialist – Smithers, BC

🔍 About the Role

The Contract Specialist plays a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates and detailed proposals, supporting contract negotiations, and drafting contract documents. Once awarded, you’ll set up contract information in internal systems, collaborate with Operations, Finance, and field teams, and ensure compliance with contract terms—including daily timesheet review and approvals.

This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a passion for the mining / exploration industry, and the ability to foster productive client and internal relationships.

🛠 Key Responsibilities

Contract Management

  • Support Operations and Contract Management teams by providing technical insights and discussing drilling strategies with prospective clients.
  • Research new client opportunities, including backgrounds, management teams, and financial health.
  • Gather technical and operational inputs across departments for bid preparation.
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposals that clearly communicate value and address client requirements.
  • Support negotiation of contract terms to ensure profitability and operational clarity.
  • Draft contract documents and enter terms into internal systems (e.g., ViewPoint).
  • Set up client accounts in FieldView and support access needs.
  • Communicate contract requirements to key departments; prepare contract summaries for cross-functional teams.
  • Review daily timesheets for accuracy and alignment with contract terms; follow up with Foremen as needed.
  • Assist with change orders, invoicing documentation, and client invoice inquiries.
  • Maintain job forecasts and build strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Participate in audits, update procedures, and ensure continuous process improvement.
  • Provide after-hours contract support when needed.

🎓 Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mineral exploration or mining.
  • Degree in Geology or Business preferred.
  • Experience in contract writing and job costing.
  • Strong understanding of diamond drill equipment and drilling methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license (driver’s abstract may be required).
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed (valid passport).
  • Completion of required safety and online training.
