Come work as a Registered Nurse (RN) - Forensic / Sexual Assault Nursing Services with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Emergency Unit at Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As an Registered Nurse with VCH, you will :

  • Within the context of a patient and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, provide comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients triaged to Forensic and / or Sexual Assault Nursing services.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of recognized Sexual Assault / Forensic Nurse Examiner coursework.
  • Two (2) years’ recent and related nursing experience in an acute or public health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Ability to demonstrate therapeutic interviewing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families / care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contraceptive management and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families / care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences and patient advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of professionals from the health and legal professions.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence / evidence-informed practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to operated related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the physical duties of the position.

    The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

    As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
