Position : Payroll Supervisor / Accountant
Salary : $75,000.00 – $90,000.00 annually
Requirements :
Language : English (spoken and written) and French is an asset.
Education : University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Admin. Related field.
Professional Payroll Certification is an asset.
Experience : 3 – 5 years experience in the field or related field with minimum 2 years in a supervisory role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programming.
Knowledge of payroll software and related systems.
Key Responsibilities :
Payroll Supervision & Administration
Supervise and support the payroll clerk, including task allocation, review of work, and training.
Oversee full-cycle payroll processing for 300+ employees (hourly and salaried), including overtime, shift premiums, multiple pay rates, and statutory holidays.
Review and approve payroll adjustments, corrections, and off-cycle payments.
Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with legislation and company policies.
Act as the primary escalation point for payroll-related questions from employees and management.
Payroll System Management
Serve as the primary owner and administrator of the payroll system.
Maintain payroll system configuration, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and tax setup.
Ensure system accuracy, data integrity, and proper security controls.
Lead payroll system testing related to updates, upgrades, or legislative changes.
Partner with HR, IT, and system vendors to resolve system issues and implement enhancements.
Develop and maintain payroll procedures, documentation, and user controls.
Ensure accurate and timely statutory remittances (income tax, CPP / QPP, EI, workers’ compensation, pension and benefit deductions, garnishments).
Maintain compliance with federal, provincial / state, and local payroll legislation.
Prepare and submit year-end payroll reporting (T4s, RL-1s, ROEs, and related filings).
Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll.
Payroll Accounting & Month-End Support
Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries.
Reconcile payroll, benefit, and statutory liability accounts.
Support month-end close activities related to payroll, including accruals and labour cost analysis.
Provide payroll data and documentation for internal and external audits.
Work collaboratively with accounting and operations teams to ensure accurate labour costing.
