The Department of Italian Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three-year full-time contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the areas of Italian Language and Italian Cinema. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Italian Studies or Cinema Studies or a closely related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence. Native or near native fluency in Italian is expected together with an excellent command of English. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths

Candidates must demonstrate expertise in teaching Italian as a second / foreign language and Italian Cinema in a degree granting program at the undergraduate program level. Experience in coordinating large multi-sectional courses and in managing course instructors and / or teaching assistants involved in such courses is a desirable asset. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities in Italian language and cinema.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

The successful candidate will teach courses in the Italian language and Cinema courses (at any assigned undergraduate levels), coordinate multi-sectional language courses taught by a team of course instructors and / or teaching assistants, and assist with other activities in the Italian Studies Program.
