Description The Vice President, Trenchless Services is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, and execution of Michels Canada Co.’s Trenchless Services division. These divisions include Tunneling and Micro Tunneling, Horizontal Directional Drilling, Direct Pipe Installation and Pipe Services. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this senior leadership role will drive growth through innovation and strong business development, project delivery, financial performance, and client relationships, ensuring that Michels Canada Co. maintains it’s industry-leading standards in trenchless services such as horizontal directional drilling, micro tunneling, pipe bursting, and other minimally invasive underground construction techniques. The Vice President, Trenchless Services will lead a cross-functional team, ensure operational excellence and foster an environment of continuous improvement for employees, strategies, tools, processes, and standards to ensure safe and profitable operations. Responsibilities Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. Lead by example to promote and maintain Michels Canada Co.’s culture and core values by complying with Michels Canada Standards and Policies. Develop and implement the strategic vision for the trenchless services division including horizontal directional drilling, direct pipe installation and tunneling and micro tunneling, in alignment with company goals. Identify growth opportunities and industry trends to enhance the Michels Canada Co.’s competitive edge. Collaborate with executive leadership to set short and long-term goals and ensure alignment with overall corporate objectives. Lead and oversee all trenchless operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of projects. Establish best practices, protocols, and standards to optimize project performance and resource utilization. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental protocols. Manage the financial health of the trenchless services division, including budget forecasting, cost control, and P&L responsibility. Drive profitability by improving project margins, reducing costs, and enhancing operational efficiencies, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take proactive measures to meet or exceed financial targets. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, vendors, and industry stakeholders. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project managers, engineers, and field staff. Foster an environment of continuous improvement for direct reports by facilitating feedback, performance reviews and discussions regarding career paths and opportunities. Work in partnership with the Human Resources department to create individualized training and development plans to assist direct reports to achieve career goals. Collaborate with Human Resources leadership to contribute to the organizational people strategy. Participate in workforce planning to assess internal resources and develop a resource strategy for future projects. This includes internal talent reviews to identify career paths and succession planning. Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale trenchless projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to client specifications. Address any operational challenges or issues that arise during project execution. Maintain effective communication with project teams to ensure project milestones are met. Other duties as assigned Requirements Master’s or a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field. P. Eng or equivalent professional certification is highly preferred. Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 years in trenchless technology in a progressively senior management role. Proven experience in leading large-scale trenchless services projects, including horizontal directional drilling, pipe bursting, direct pipe installation and micro-tunneling. Through knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines. Strong understanding of construction project management, cost control, and financial performance metrics. Ability to think strategically, solve problems, and adapt to changing market conditions.
