Position Summary

The Adult Programmer is responsible for planning and delivering dynamic programs for adults, both within the Library and out in the community. This role plays a key part in advancing the goals of Airdrie Public Library’s Plan of Service by fostering meaningful community partnerships, promoting library resources, and creating inclusive, enriching experiences that inspire learning and connection.

In addition to program delivery, the Programmer supports program development and evaluation, supervises volunteers, and actively contributes to outreach initiative that reflect the Library’s vision to start a journey of discovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adult Programming

Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive programs for adults that support lifelong learning, creativity, wellness, and community connection.

  • Offer a diverse range of experiences including author talks, workshops, discussion groups, cultural programs, and hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Develop seasonal and themed programming that reflects the interests and needs of Airdrie’s adult community.
  • Collaborate with the broader program team members to ensure alignment, share resources, and contribute to a cohesive library-wide programming strategy.
  • Support library-wide initiatives and events that align with the Library’s mission to inspire discovery, learning, and connection.
  • Community Engagement and Outreach
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, service providers, and community groups that serve adults.

  • Represent the Library at outreach events—be the friendly, knowledgeable face that connects our services with the community.
  • Engage with adult learners, newcomers, seniors, and other key groups to foster meaningful, lasting connections that support their needs and interests.
  • Collaborate with partners to co-create relevant, responsive programming that addresses community interests and priorities.
  • Promote library programs, services, and collections during community events and in-library programs.
  • Program Support and Evaluation
  • Track attendance, gather feedback, and evaluate the impact of adult programs to support continuous improvement.

  • Recommend new program ideas and innovative approaches to expand reach and engagement.
  • Contribute to planning and reporting processes by identifying programming needs and budget considerations.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of program spaces, ensuring a welcoming, accessible, and professional environment.
  • Volunteer Engagement
  • Support volunteer participation in adult programs by providing guidance, training, and encouragement.

  • Identify opportunities for volunteers to contribute meaningfully to the delivery and support of adult programming.
  • What You Will Bring

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
  • Experience in community engagement, or public programming.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology and strong presentation skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in relevant areas (e.g., arts, STEM, literacy, digital media) considered an asset for developing and delivering engaging public programming.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Passion for inclusive and innovative public service.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effectively interacting with library staff and patrons.
  • Other Requirements

  • Will be required to work evenings and occasional weekends to support library events or operational needs.
  • Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving abstract. Travel may be required on occasion for program delivery.
  • Successful candidates will be required to submit a criminal record with vulnerable sector checks as a condition of employment
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including the ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, public-facing environment.
  • What we Offer :

  • Salary Range : $ 50,712 to $ 61,332 and a generous benefits package
  • This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week
