Logistics and Transportation Manager - Muskoka Region

MacDonald Search Group is partnering with a significant Canadian manufacturer to identify a Logistics & Distribution Manager who will lead transportation, warehousing, and distribution operations across Canada and the United States.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic organization experiencing significant growth and transformation. The successful candidate will play a key role in building scalable logistics processes, strengthening carrier and 3PL relationships, and driving service excellence throughout the supply chain.

About the Role

Reporting to the Supply Chain leadership team, the Logistics & Distribution Manager will oversee inbound and outbound transportation, freight forwarding, third-party warehouse relationships, retail compliance, and cross-border logistics activities.

The ideal candidate combines strong operational expertise with proven leadership capability and is comfortable driving change in a fast-paced, evolving environment.


Key Responsibilities


Transportation & Freight Management
  • Lead inbound and outbound transportation operations across Canada and the United States
  • Manage domestic, cross-border, and international freight activities
  • Develop and maintain transportation policies, routing guides, and carrier standards
  • Negotiate freight agreements and manage carrier performance
  • Monitor freight costs, market conditions, capacity risks, and service levels
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost, efficiency, and customer service
Distribution & Warehouse Operations
  • Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs)
  • Monitor warehouse performance, inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, and service metrics
  • Lead performance reviews and continuous improvement programs with logistics partners
  • Support warehouse sourcing initiatives and contract negotiations
Customer Service & Retail Compliance
  • Ensure on-time, in-full delivery performance across key customer accounts
  • Manage retailer compliance requirements, routing guides, appointment scheduling, and delivery standards
  • Reduce chargebacks, missed deliveries, and service disruptions through root-cause analysis and corrective action planning
  • Partner closely with Customer Service, Sales, Planning, and Operations teams
Trade Compliance & Cross-Border Logistics
  • Support customs, freight forwarding, and import/export activities
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on tariff management, trade compliance, and documentation requirements
  • Ensure transportation processes align with applicable regulations and customer requirements
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop logistics team members
  • Establish clear accountability, performance expectations, and operating procedures
  • Build organizational capability through training, process improvement, and change management
  • Foster strong collaboration across Procurement, Planning, Customer Service, and Operations
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, distribution, or supply chain management
  • Experience within manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, food distribution, or related industries preferred
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience with responsibility for coaching and developing teams
  • Strong knowledge of transportation and distribution networks
  • Experience managing carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and third-party logistics providers
  • Knowledge of retail routing guides, compliance requirements, and chargeback management
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, and Excel
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, Operations, or a related discipline
  • Professional supply chain designations such as CITT, CIFFA, CCS, APICS/ASCM, or Lean/Six Sigma are considered assets
Compensation

$85k - $95k base salary
15% variable bonus
