Who We Are :
At Northland, we’re enablers of change, united by our journey to transform the energy sector into the foundation for a sustainable future.
Since our inception, we’ve been early movers in the energy industry, adopting new initiatives that pave the way for communities across the globe and helping forge their path towards a carbon-neutral landscape.
We’re a different kind of independent power producer. As developers, owners and operators who are at the forefront of the energy transition, we’re uniquely positioned to leave a lasting impact in the regions where we operate. We’ve expanded our business across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia to become a global leader, all by bringing together industry experts to find solutions with an entrepreneurial mindset.
While our work powers communities across the globe, Northland is powered by our people.
As an Environmental Manager, you will play a key role in preparing and submitting environmental permit applications for new renewable energy and storage facilities working with a team of experienced development professionals and external consultants. You will also compile and prepare environmental reports for regulators, track environmental metrics, and support facility improvement and construction projects by aiding with environmental matters within a multidisciplinary team.
This role will be based in Toronto, and you will be expected to work from our corporate office a minimum of 3 times a week in line with our hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities :
- Coordinate and obtain necessary environmental permits, including but not limited to NEPA compliance, Clean Water Act Section 404 / 401, Endangered Species Act consultations, and state / local environmental approvals.
- Conduct regulatory analyses to determine project-specific permitting requirements.
- Develop and submit applications, liaising with agencies and stakeholders to ensure timely approvals.
- Work closely with project development teams to integrate environmental considerations into project design and timelines.
- Maintain project schedules and track permitting milestones to support overall project timelines.
- Oversee environmental site assessments, impact studies, and field surveys conducted by consultants or internal teams.
- Review and interpret technical reports (e.g., wetland delineations, wildlife studies) to identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement, including public meetings and community outreach, as needed.
- Ensure adherence to permit conditions during construction and operations.
- Support the preparation of compliance reports and audits.
