Job Title: Data Center Support Technician (Server Infrastructure)
Location: Mackenzie, BC (100% Onsite – Relocation Required)
Contract Length: 12 Months
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Support Technician to support day-to-day operations within a large enterprise server environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining server infrastructure, coordinating maintenance activities, supporting hardware break/fix processes, and ensuring the overall health and operational readiness of the data center.
This is a fully onsite role based in Mackenzie, BC. Candidates must be willing to relocate and work onsite five days per week without exception.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on server hardware experience
- Experience supporting PowerEdge Rack and Tower servers
- Experience administering or supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu operating systems
- Experience working within large-scale server or data center environments
- Strong troubleshooting and operational support skills
- Comfortable working in a physically demanding data center environment
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience supporting PowerEdge XE servers
Key Responsibilities
Data Center Operations
- Support day-to-day data center activities and infrastructure operations
- Proactively monitor the data center environment and identify potential issues, including hardware alerts, environmental concerns, and operational risks
- Escort field service engineers and maintenance personnel as required
- Manage parts inventory and logistics processes (training provided)
Infrastructure Management
- Maintain accurate documentation, including: Server serial numbersRack elevationsRunbooksAsset inventoriesEnvironment documentation
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance activities with customer teams, including: Power maintenanceCooling maintenanceContainment wall maintenanceInfrastructure upgrades
Server Administration & Support
- Perform BIOS lifecycle management and updates
- Support user administration tasks
- Execute server patching and update activities
- Troubleshoot and coordinate hardware break/fix activities with vendor support teams
- Assist with server firmware, software, and platform version updates as directed by customer stakeholders
Training Requirements
- The selected candidate must complete XE Server Training prior to the start of the assignment.
- Successful completion of the training is mandatory before beginning onsite responsibilities.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to relocate to Mackenzie, British Columbia and work onsite 100% of the time.
- No remote, hybrid, or travel-based work arrangements are available.
- Compensation rate is all-inclusive; no additional travel or relocation expenses will be reimbursed.
- Must understand and be prepared for the realities of a remote northern location, including weather conditions and transportation requirements.
Environmental Readiness
Candidates must:
- Be comfortable working in challenging weather conditions, including harsh winter environments.
- Have access to reliable transportation suitable for winter driving conditions.
- Understand that walking or cycling may not be practical year-round due to weather and road conditions.
- Be prepared to travel safely to and from the work site during all seasons.
