BC Housing is seeking a Litigation Lawyer to manage and oversee complex litigation matters that align with the organization’s objectives. This role involves managing litigation files and overseeing external counsel to ensure compliance with legal obligations, mitigate risk, and optimize outcomes for BC Housing. The successful candidate will represent the organization in legal proceedings involving construction disputes, workplace issues, and other key matters, focusing on early-stage risk management and strategic resolution.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Provide strategic legal advice on construction-related disputes, including delay claims, lien disputes, and contractor performance issues.
Manage disputes at early stages, including demand letters and alternative dispute resolution strategies.
Oversee litigation handled by external counsel, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Represent BC Housing in legal proceedings and provide risk assessments on ongoing disputes.
Offer legal advice on Residential Tenancy Board matters and oversee appeals with broader organizational impact.
Collaborate with other legal counsel to address overlapping issues, particularly in labour, real estate, and development litigation.
Education and Professional Skills / Knowledge
Law Degree (LL.B or J.D.) and membership in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia (or eligibility within three months).
Minimum 4 years of legal experience in litigation, with a focus on construction law and disputes.
Extensive knowledge of Court Rules, Civil Procedure, and tribunal processes.
Ability to manage complex files with high organizational impact.
