Director of Instruction (Learning & Innovation)
The Saanich School District (SD63) invites applications for the position of Director of Instruction Learning & Innovation with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025.
Located on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula near Victoria, the Saanich School District serves approximately 7,500 students in eight elementary, three middle, and three secondary schools, as well as two Individual Learning Centres (ILC), a successful Provincial Online Learning School (South Island Distance Education School, SIDES), and the Children's Development Centre (CDC). The District employs 650 teachers, 38 principals and vice-principals, 500 unionized support staff, and 21 exempt management staff, all within an annual operational budget of $100 million.
Strong working relationships with all partner groups, including the local WSÁNEĆ First Nation, have resulted in the Saanich School District having a well-established reputation for excellent student achievement and program innovation within a strong culture of caring and respect.
Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Director of Instruction Learning & Innovation is a vital member of the District Executive Team and will share in the leadership, management, and future direction of the Saanich School District.
The successful candidate will be an individual who has a track record of success and experience working in a diverse community of learners; an educator who is committed to supporting all learners and teachers; and who believes that learning is a lifelong journey. The Director is a leader who inspires others and makes a difference.
Essential attributes for this critical leadership position include :
- A Masters degree in K-12 education in curriculum development, supervision of instruction, educational leadership, or a related field;
- Holds a current teaching Certificate of Qualification from the BC Teacher Regulation Branch;
- Ability to support the Board of Education in its important governance responsibilities;
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and reconciliation along with an understanding of the WSÁNEĆ First Nation and broader Indigenous communities;
- A commitment to the First Peoples Principles of Learning;
- Proven administrative success in K-12 education as a principal or district principal, with experience at the elementary level an asset;
- Extensive knowledge of the BC K-12 curriculum and education system;
- Expertise in the area of Early Learning and Early Literacy and the ability to lead these initiatives district-wide;
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex organizational responsibilities effectively;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams of teachers to develop, implement, and evaluate curricular innovation and sound instructional and assessment practices;
- Ability to collaboratively plan professional development or in-service opportunities for staff;
- Broad knowledge of English Language Learners and familiarity with Speech and Language programs and practices;
- Demonstrated ability to embody the qualities and approaches desired of the District while providing exemplary support and supervision of school administrators and district teacher leaders to enhance their growth as professionals and educational leaders;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on relationship building;
- Demonstrated success in project initiation, implementation, and completion;
- Strong analytical and organizational skills to work with budgets and other critical operational necessities;
- Demonstrated understanding of the key role digital access and student / staff digital literacy plays in improving student learning and instructional practice;
- Evidence of a commitment to personal excellence, professionalism, and continued professional growth;
- An understanding that the Board's vision for public education in Saanich will require a long-term leadership commitment.
The Saanich School District offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $164,459 - $182,732.
