Your opportunity is in Continuing Care at the Fairview Health Complex. You will assist with the implementation of basic individual or group treatment programs as directed by the supervising Recreation Therapist or Recreation Therapy Assistant in accordance with resident or client care plans. You have a strong interest in activities, and enjoy creative hobbies and sharing those interests with seniors. You will collaborate closely with the Health Care team, including trained assistants, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, and Nursing to provide a comprehensive service for clients. You enjoy working with people, can relate to clients and families in a caring manner with respect and dignity, and work effectively as part of a team.In addition to excellent wages and benefits; AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Description:
As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.
Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12.
Additional Required Qualifications: Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. This position is anticipated to have high physical demands based on the client need. The successful candidate needs to be physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time, loading clients onto the bus for outings, supporting the clients in a range of physical hygiene tasks and performing client transfers over the course of a full shift. Computer skills including MS Office, and experience with electronic charting is essential. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous Personal Care Aide experience an asset. Related experience working with elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset.
