We are seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer’s for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year.

The Role

Greenfields PS is seeking a passionate, dedicated and community-minded Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join our Student Services team.

The AIEO plays a vital role in strengthening relationships between home and school, supporting student engagement, attendance, wellbeing and academic achievement, while promoting and celebrating Aboriginal culture across our entire school community. This aligns with the Department of Education's expectations for the role, including acting as a liaison between the school, families and community, mentoring students and supporting culturally responsive teaching and learning.

We are looking for someone who Ideally has strong connections to the local Aboriginal community and values authentic relationships with families, is passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally and can ideally work collaboratively with teachers, school leaders and external agencies to improve student outcomes whilst providing cultural advice and guidance to staff, supporting culturally responsive teaching and school practices.

The suitable applicants will ideally display excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills whilst being flexible, proactive and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children. The suitable applicants will ideally build positive relationships with Aboriginal students and their families whilst supporting attendance, engagement and participation in learning.

The suitable applicants will ideally provide mentoring, pastoral care and advocacy for students whilst working alongside classroom teachers to implement culturally responsive learning experiences, you will ideally assist with the coordination of cultural events, NAIDOC week activities and community engagement opportunities whilst liaising with community organisations and support services to strengthen outcomes for students. The suitable applicants will ideally participate as an active member of the Student Services team.

Eligibility

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members and assist teachers to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ needs. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of culturally responsive education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
