REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

Position Overview

Malahat SkyWalk is looking for a detail-oriented and hardworking Custodian (Facility Cleaner) to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our guests and staff. This role is responsible for general cleaning, waste management, restroom upkeep, and addressing maintenance needs throughout the site. If you take pride in keeping spaces tidy and enjoy working outdoors, this role is perfect for you!

Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)

In this role, you will:

  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of public areas, restrooms, picnic areas, and other high-traffic locations.
  • Clean and sanitize assigned areas, including offices, restrooms, hallways, breakrooms and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum and polish floors and surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste according to company procedures.
  • Ensure restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies (e.g. soap, paper towels, toilet paper) and keep them neat and tidy.
  • Sweep, mop, and pressure wash walkways, plazas, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned areas and report maintenance issues to Supervisor.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down event spaces as required.
  • Monitor and address safety hazards, such as spills or obstructions.
  • Use and maintain cleaning equipment properly, following safety guidelines.
  • Provide friendly and helpful assistance to guests when needed.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure a secure work environment.
  • Support other Malahat SkyWalk departments as needed to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience, Abilities and Qualifications To excel in this role, you should demonstrate:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Physically demanding role - must be comfortable standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a friendly professional attitude.
  • Capacity to safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds

Asset Qualifications

The following qualifications are not mandatory; however, they are preferred and will be considered assets:

  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and supplies and their proper handling and storage.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Basic First Aid (OFA Level 1)

Work Conditions

  • This position requires flexibility to accommodate the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
  • Cross-training in other departments will be required to support the overall guest experience at Malahat SkyWalk. You will also be required to learn about our location, its history, foliage and geography, etcetera in order to answer questions from our guests.
  • This position requires working in variable weather conditions.
