ADVANCED CARE PARAMEDIC

Permanent Full Time

Location : Labrador West, NL

The Advanced Care Paramedic performs independent advanced medical care and intervention to patients at pre-hospital scene settings. This includes operating ambulances in responding to emergencies and routine calls; conducting physical examinations; performing comprehensive assessments and tests; interpreting a variety of tests and procedures; initiating a variety of advanced interventions; and performing other related duties as required. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through observation, examination of records and reports and the presence or absence of valid complaints. Advanced Care Paramedics report directly to the Manager of Emergency Services. The base for this service is located at the Labrador West Health Centre.

Qualifications :

• Completion of an Accredited Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Program from Canadian Medical Association is required;
• Current registration with the Provincial Medical Oversight Program as an ACP at the time of commencing employment;
• Possession of a valid Class 4 Driver's License as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador;
• Experience as an ACP is required. A minimum two years is preferred;
• Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in emergency services;
• Pre-employment Physical Capabilities test and medical is required;
• A satisfactory record of work performance is required;
• Annual certification in CPR and advanced skills;
• 40 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME);
• Effective oral and written communication skills;
• Critical and sound decision making skills;
• Confidence to manage a variety of situations;
• Computer skills;
• Ability to perform various medical procedures and operate a variety of medical equipment;

Salary :

CG-37 of the NAPE HS salary scale $34.73 - $38.80 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work :

75 hours biweekly (12 hour shifts; days; evenings; weekends; rotating; on-call)
