Job description

At Stantec, we have some of the world’s leading professionals passionate about enabling our business to be its best. Our business teams include finance, procurement, human resources, information technology, marketing, corporate development, HSSE, real estate, legal, and practice services. We bring diverse backgrounds, skills, and expertise and create a caring culture where everyone can thrive. Through teamwork and collaboration, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Stantec every day.

Your Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Director of Marketing to join our high-performing, collaborative, marketing leadership team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Marketing, North America, you will lead marketing and promotions for Stantec’s Energy & Resources and Environmental Services business operating units (BOUs) across North America.

As a trusted strategic partner to business and regional leaders, you’ll align marketing and promotion strategies with business priorities, helping position Stantec for growth, amplify our brand, and tell compelling stories about the impact of our work. This is an opportunity to lead at scale, influence strategy, and inspire a talented team to deliver meaningful results.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of marketing strategists, promotions specialists, visual communications designers and digital content professionals, driving consistency, quality, and impact across all initiatives.

  • Foster a culture grounded in trust, respect, and recognition, celebrating both individual and collective success.

  • Build a resilient, future-ready team through thoughtful resource planning, professional development, and succession planning.

  • Champion continuous improvement—streamlining processes, embracing emerging technologies (including AI), and aligning with industry best practices to enhance efficiency and creativity.

  • Establish and track clear performance metrics to ensure accountability, insight-driven decision-making, and organizational excellence.

  • Manage budgets and workforce planning with a strategic lens, leveraging local and global delivery centers to maximize value and impact.

  • Support and empower teams through change, creating the conditions for innovation to flourish in an evolving market.

  • Foster open communication and collaboration across teams to create a productive, positive and high-performing work environment.

Shape Marketing Strategy and Promotions

  • Lead the development and execution of integrated marketing plans that advance market positioning and directly support BOU business objectives.

  • Partner with pursuit leaders and PR teams to deliver annual campaigns, communications strategies, and event plans that fuel business development.

  • Serve as the BOU marketing voice in the creation of compelling internal and external storytelling—leveraging platforms such as stantec.com, The Lens, and the Stantec Marketing Knowledge Center (SMKC).

  • Provide strategic oversight and direction across marketing and communications channels, including digital campaigns, social media, advertising, publications, conferences, and tradeshows.

  • Collaborate across BOUs and regions to advance shared initiatives and enterprise priorities.

  • Guide the development of thought leadership—white papers, webinars, and content marketing—that elevates Stantec’s brand and expertise.

  • Work closely with brand, design, and communications teams to strengthen brand awareness, alignment, and storytelling consistency.

  • Support strategic BOU and sector communications to ensure clarity, cohesion, and resonance with internal and external audiences.

  • Collaborate with teams to bring promotional programs to life, guiding marketing photography and videography from planning through execution, including client approvals, project storytelling, creative direction, and on-site support.

Your Capabilities

  • A highly accountable, people-first leader who sets clear expectations and delivers results.

  • Proven success building and leading collaborative, high-performing teams in complex environments, and fostering a culture of accountability and results.

  • Strong strategic and stakeholder partnership skills, paired with the ability to listen, influence, and align.

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing creative, effective marketing and communications strategies at scale.

  • A deep understanding of marketing, branding, and promotion best practices, paired with a passion for continuous improvement

  • Brings a strategic focus to process optimization, confidently driving decisions and improvements that enhance efficiency and elevate organizational performance.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to inspire through clear and compelling storytelling.

  • Adaptability and resilience, thriving amid change and helping others navigate it with confidence.

  • Experience using standard marketing tools.

  • We value a hybrid work environment that combines in-person collaboration with remote flexibility. As a people leader you will be expected to be in the office, on average, three days a week.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in marketing or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 5 years in a people leadership role.
