POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME PURPOSE The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial health, sustainability, and strategic financial planning of the Treaty One Nations Inc. (T1N). This role ensures strong fiscal management by implementing sound financial policies, internal controls, and compliance measures. The Director of Finance provides leadership in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management while supporting long-term organizational goals. Acting as a key advisor to the Executive Director, this position plays a critical role in financial decision making, stakeholder engagement, and operational efficiency. Through ethical leadership and financial stewardship, the Director of Finance contributes to the overall success and growth of the T1N. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Finance is responsible for comprehensive financial oversight, implementing and enforcing internal controls, accounting policies, and ensuring compliance with IFRS standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves daily management of financial transactions, asset and inventory control, payroll accuracy, and banking relationships. It requires proactive monitoring of cash flow, assessment of investment opportunities, and effective management of financial risks to safeguard organizational assets.This position leads the budgeting and forecasting process, preparing annual operating, capital, and cash budgets, and provides strategic financial planning support to the Executive Director. The incumbent identifies funding opportunities, assists with grant applications, manages financial contracts and leases, and provides insightful financial analysis and recommendations to guide decision-making.Additionally, the Director of Finance oversees accurate and timely financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, develops financial performance measurement systems, manages the annual audit process, and ensures efficient collaboration with auditors. The role requires fostering operational efficiencies, leading technological enhancements in financial systems, and maintaining ethical leadership standards.As a leader, the incumbent is responsible for hiring, training, mentoring finance staff, facilitating knowledge transfer, promoting a collaborative team culture, and developing robust succession plans. The position also involves active pursuit and completion of Financial Management Board (FMB) Certification, along with oversight of taxation compliance and lease administration to optimize revenue and asset utilization. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA, CFA, or equivalent professional designation is required. A combination of related experience and education may be considered.
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Extensive working knowledge & experience with QuickBooks or Sage ACCPAC.
- Extensive experience in contribution agreement reporting.
- Experience in policy development, compliance, risk management, and audits.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
- Strategic thinker able to assess financial opportunities and risks.
- Commitment to ethical standards and financial transparency.
- Strong understanding of IFRS standards and their implementation in financial reporting.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong knowledge of Treaty and First Nation rights, relevant legislation, and Treaty One First Nations' culture and governance.
