Your New Role

A Survey Manager plays a vital role in ensuring precise and efficient survey operations to support construction activities. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and calibration of survey equipment, managing the control network, and ensuring accurate documentation and records. The Survey Manager coordinates survey requirements, provides layout guidance, and leads survey teams, maintaining clear communication with clients to ensure alignment with project goals. Additionally, they are responsible for quality control of data, preparing reports for as-built drawings, mentoring survey staff, and implementing improvements within the survey function.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities :

While the Survey Manager is responsible for a multitude of duties, the main functions include :

  • Ensures compliance with all Sullivan policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and verify the control network.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute survey requirements to support construction activities.
  • Keep accurate survey records, documentation, and stamped submittals.
  • Provide layout and alignment at various construction stages.
  • Organize, monitor, and manage survey operations and personnel.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients.
  • Manage as-built information and digital records.
  • Complete assigned survey requests, both field and office based.
  • Prepare and organize fieldwork data pre- and post-task completion.
  • Perform quality checks on collected data, ensuring alignment with completed works.
  • Prepare detailed survey reports for as-built drawings.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance the survey section.
  • Mentor and support surveyors and assistants, aiding their professional development.
  • Safeguard and properly handle company materials and equipment.
  • Support and carry out tasks to implement, measure, and maintain the Survey Network.

Health, Safety, and Environmental :

  • Adheres to all safety procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicates and enforces safety standards in conjunction with the Construction Health, Safety and Environmental Officer.
  • Quality :

  • Adheres to all processes and procedures established in the Sullivan Integrated Management System (S-IMS).
  • Ensures the quality of produced efforts reflects the Sullivan quality standards core values.
  • Preferred Experience and Qualifications :

  • 8-10 years of experience in land surveying.
  • Experience in management and leading survey teams is an asset.
  • Have a deep understanding of civil works construction and methods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Design software such as Civil 3D, Micro Survey, Auto Cad
  • Knowledge of Point Cloud software.
  • Be highly skilled in using varied survey equipment such as Laser Scans, Total Stations, GNSS receivers, Trimble, Leica and Topcon devices and Digital Levels.
  • Professional designation such as Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is preferred.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Your Skills :

  • Highly skilled in personal communication and building relationships with other departments and site management.
  • Able to understand project schedules and identify critical paths.
  • Proficient in estimating quantities of materials (e.g., earthworks, concrete).
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially in measurements and legal document preparation.
  • Effective listening skills to understand instructions from architects and project managers.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Team player capable of collaborating within an integrated field operations staff.
  • Stays current with technical and procedural advancements in surveying.
