The Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Digital Technologies in Education. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter.
Candidates must have earned a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Education or a field closely related to the area of specialization by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek an interdisciplinary scholar who studies the educational uses of digital technology in the lives of children and youth. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching with a strong portfolio in one or more of the following areas : AI in education, educational uses of augmented and / or virtual reality, new media literacies, digital game-based learning, social media, and teaching and learning with digital technology. Experience with research or teaching in K-12 school settings will be considered a strong asset.
We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths . The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees.
Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, as well as teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material / lectures. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.
In addition, candidates are expected to demonstrate in their application materials a commitment to social justice, equity, accessibility and engagement in education, and the ability to work in diverse contexts and with diverse student populations. The successful candidate will be committed to the academic success of all of our students and foster an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity and differences.
Responsibilities of the position include teaching graduate courses in the field of Online Teaching and Learning, as well as courses that are part of the department’s Master of Education program. Other responsibilities of the position include departmental service, and it is expected that the successful candidate will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
