Maintenance Worker

Position Summary

Community Living Greater Sudbury (CLGS) is seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to join our team. Reporting to the Logistics Coordinator, the Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs in various areas, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building upkeep. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and well-functioning environment for our staff and tenants.

The ideal candidate will have experience in facility maintenance, building management routines, and compliance with safety regulations, as well as strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform maintenance and repairs related to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general facility upkeep.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment and ensure they are in good working order.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and interact positively and respectfully with tenants with developmental disabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including the Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, WHMIS, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and identify potential repair needs proactively.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report any issues promptly.
  • Complete assigned tasks independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills :

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in building maintenance, facility management, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance routines and relevant legal and safety requirements.
  • Valid G drivers license and reliable vehicle (required).
  • Perform physical tasks, including bending, twisting, reaching, lifting light objects, and pushing carts or equipment as needed to support office functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kilograms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, database management).
  • Sitting, Standing, Walking may be required on a moderate to high frequency for each shift
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written in English); proficiency in other languages is an asset.
  • Interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and tenants.
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Crisis Prevention / Intervention (considered assets).
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must provide a clear or satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening check as per agency requirements.
