GIS Data Analyst

Job Description
Reporting to the GIS Supervisor, this position maintains GIS database files by updating, creating, acquiring, and manipulating geospatial data, some with special requirements. The role involves analyzing geospatial data using ESRI products for the division and other departments. The incumbent offers solutions for new GIS applications by reviewing business needs, available data, and creating data collection specifications, liaising with the GIS Supervisor to design in-house data. Contributions include database creation and mobile app design for internal and external users, preparing analysis-based reports, and designing databases with quality control to ensure data accuracy.
The position requires meeting with users to develop system or project requirements, translating these into design specifications for map creation, and providing technical support to users and agencies. Responsibilities also include developing custom locators, coordinating new geographic data acquisition, supporting GIS software troubleshooting, preparing project plans, documenting procedures, training staff, and supporting application development using ESRI and VertiGIS tools. Attendance at off-site meetings and maintaining good relations are expected. The role includes occupational health & safety duties and other related tasks as required.
Qualifications
- A three-year Degree or Diploma in GIS, Urban Planning, Geography, Computer Science, or related, plus a one-year GIS certificate or equivalent.
- Experience with mobile applications like Field Maps and Survey 123 is an asset.
- Proficiency with VertiGIS Studio Web Suite is an asset.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS model builder, Python, Arcade programming, SQL, MS Access is an asset.
- Ability to travel to off-site locations, with a valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract if driving is involved.
- Proficiency in GIS CAD software, MS Access, Windows OS, file management, and data conversion.
- Self-motivated with minimal supervision, adaptable to training, and strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in ESRI products, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office is an asset.
