Job description

Job Description

Performs skilled work in monitoring and controlling operations of the Water & Wastewater Control Systems, working under supervision. Experience working with a GE-Ultra Filtration Membrane System is an asset. This position will be required to work any shift and/or any day of the week in accordance with production schedules.

  • Location: Taber, Alberta

  • Full-time, Hourly

  • Schedule: 12-hour shift schedule rotation (7:00-7:00) with an average of 42 hours per week. Must be available to work day-shift, night-shift, weekends, and statutory holidays.

As a Level 2 Water Treatment Operator, you’ll…

  • Always maintain and promote safe work practices

  • Complete the company training program outline for this position

  • Operate & locate important safety equipment, systems, and stations

  • Understand and use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Maintain consistent treatment to limits set for land applications and maintain clear interaction and communication with your Team Leader.

  • Have a strong knowledge of irrigation wastewater systems.

  • Support Management and team member’s efforts to optimize manufacturing efficiency and promote continuous improvement.

  • Work with Supervisory staff and safety committees to develop and implement safety improvements.

  • Keep regular records of meter and pump operations, ensuring proper operation and daily management of a process water treatment system.

  • Collect, process, and record various samples and information, including, but not limited to: flow and chemical composites.

  • Be responsible for operations, monitoring, and maintenance of the Process and Wastewater Treatment Systems to ensure effective operation.

  • Be responsible for operating and maintaining an Anaerobic Digester

  • Have a complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules including lockout-tag-out procedures and chemical hazards.

  • Understand and follow all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  • Coordinate with production supervisory personnel on changes in water requirements to help ensure maximum plant productivity.

  • Assist your Team Leader in training new Water Treatment operators.

  • Assist in the coordination of ordering parts and supplies.

  • Fill out, maintain, and sign all applicable documentation and administration forms for verification purposes.

  • Remove any foreign material found and notify the Production Team Leaders immediately if glass or metal is found.

  • Collaborate, influence, and partner with team members across the organization to enable individuals and teams to be successful in their roles

  • Clean water treatment areas as determined necessary (using the designated cleaning equipment and supplies as well as a high pressure water hose).

  • Engage in other duties as assigned by your Team Leader that are concerned with our water treatment programs & standards

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Alberta 2nd Class Water Treatment certificate from college or technical school

  • Strong computer application skills in all of the following:

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)

    • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP, Maximo, or equivariant

Classifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must possess and maintain either a Level II Alberta water treatment certification or an equivalent reciprocal license.

  • Must obtain and maintain WHMIS certification. (company provided)

  • Must obtain and maintain Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification. (company provided)

  • Must obtain H2S certification. (company provided)

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, management, supervisors, and fellow coworkers.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or group situations to other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and mathematics required to calculate interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. You are occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • You must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. You are frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.

  • You are occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.

  • Examples of hazardous chemicals on site are Chlorine and Ammonia.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
