Millwork Estimator
Position Summary
The Millwork Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for
custom architectural millwork projects. This role works closely with clients, project managers,
designers, vendors, and production teams to analyze drawings, specifications, materials, labour,
and installation requirements. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of millwork
construction, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids
simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
•Review architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
•Prepare detailed estimates for custom millwork and cabinetry projects.
•Perform quantity take-offs for materials, hardware, finishes, and labour.
•Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
•Analyze project scope, risks, timelines, and constructability.
•Prepare bid submissions, quotations, budgets, and pricing breakdowns.
•Collaborate with project management, design, and production teams during pre-
construction.
•Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client meetings as required.
•Track bid opportunities and maintain estimating records and historical costing data.
•Assist with value engineering and cost-saving recommendations.
•Ensure estimates align with company standards, margins, and production capabilities.
•Support handoff meetings for awarded projects to project management and production
teams.
Requirements
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation- Diploma or Degree in:
- Construction Management
- Architectural Technology
- Woodworking / Cabinetmaking
(or equivalent experience)
Experience- 3–7 years of experience in estimating within:
- Millwork
- Custom cabinetry
- Interior construction or related trades
- Experience reading architectural and shop drawings is essential.
Technical Skills- Strong knowledge of:
- Millwork materials, hardware, and finishes
- Fabrication and installation processes
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Excel (advanced)
- Estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, PlanSwift, or similar)
- Ability to interpret:
- Architectural drawings
- Shop drawings
- Specifications and bid documents
