Job description
Site Description: The Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre has 24-hour emergency department. Also have medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation, chronic pain and ambulatory care services, a meticulously run lab, respiratory therapy and diagnostic imaging departments.

Position Details:

Position: Full-Time Healthcare Security Guard

Site:19428 Nova Scotia Trunk 2, Amherst NS B4H 3Y4

Payrate: $ 20.50

Term: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 1500-2300

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
  • Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
  • Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
  • Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
  • Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
  • Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
  • Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards
  • Perform patient watch duties as needed, including continuous observation to ensure safety and prevent harm. Monitor and report concerns, de-escalate situations calmly, follow clinical direction, document accurately, maintain confidentiality, and provide a respectful, non-invasive presence.

Prerequisites:

  • Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
  • English (oral and written) fluency is a must
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
  • Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the positionPlease be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
