2026/2027, Fall & Winter Terms, Course-Based Opportunities, IWGI Dept. of Visual Art – Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following courses taught in IWGI Department of Visual Art at the Brandon University Campus for the Fall Session in Term 1 and the Winter Session in Term 2. The course may be delivered in an online synchronous format but preference will be given to qualified candidates who will teach in-person.

Qualifications: Applicants must have successful teaching experience and relevant expertise in the specified area. They will hold a Master’s Degree in a related field, and those holding a Ph.D. or who are at the ABD stage may be preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Salary: $8,132 per 3 credit hour course.

Application deadline: A review of applications will begin May 11, 2026, and the posting will remain open until the position(s) is filled.

Fall Term: Classes run from September 9 to December 11, 2026, with an exam period following.

Winter Term: Classes run from January 5 to April 9, 2027, with an exam period following.

32:185 INTRODUCTION TO CLAY I – Wed. 1:40-4:30 – Fall 2026
This course is a general introduction to ceramics and working with clay. Topics to be covered include clay types, clay preparation and simple hand building construction techniques. Basic potter’s wheel and the process of glazing and firing are also introduced.

32:186 INTRODUCTION TO CLAY II- Mond. – 1:40-4:30pm – Fall 2026
This course is a continuation of 32:185 Introduction to Clay I. It gives students further experience working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Students learn to produce basic forms such as cylinders, bowls, mugs, plates, lug and strap handles. Basic glazing and decorating techniques are applied to Bisque and Greenware.

32:254 INTERMEDIATE WHEEL THROWING – Wed – 1:40-4:30pm – Winter 2027
This course develops and extends skills learned in 32:186 Clay II. The class will begin to look at more advanced forms and methods of working on the potter’s wheel. Participants will be examining the aesthetics of visual balance and proportion with form and function. Vases, lidded containers, altered vessels, multiple piece forms and construction will be examined. Advanced continuation of glazing techniques and application will be included.

32:273 CLAY SCULPTURE – Mond. – 1:40-4:30pm – Winter 2027
This studio course will look at traditional modeling methods and techniques in clay. Subject matter will include still life and the human form. Students will learn to prepare sculptural armatures and discover various surface treatments that can be applied to clay surfaces. Methods of finishing artworks for presentation will be included.
