Investing in our people. Innovating our product selection. Sustaining the world that sustains us. We prioritize the potential for success that’s all around us.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Canada’s best-known building materials suppliers as we embark on a significant growth journey through new product launches and market penetration. As part of the Kingspan Group, Vicwest has an ambitious sustainability program, Planet Passionate, revolving around the impact of building materials on the environment.

Vicwest is looking for an ambitious candidate to join a well-established, high performing team and aid the business as we continue to grow to reach new markets across North America.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Product Compliance and Engineering Manager, the Compliance Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all roll-formed steel building products, as well as third-party manufactured and distributed products, comply with legal, regulatory, and industry standards. This role collaborates across engineering, manufacturing, and quality control teams throughout North America to maintain compliance throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design to production.

Key Accountabilities

  • Product and Engineering Compliance
  • Product Testing and Certification
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Internal Audits and Inspection
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensure products meet relevant codes, standards, and best practices, maintaining data integrity across compliance systems in accordance with ISO 37301, ISO 9001, and engineering regulations.
  • Oversee engineering change requests from approval to implementation.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and standards organizations (e.g., ASTM, ISO, CSA) to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Manage product testing processes, from developing test plans to overseeing certification labeling and the publication of performance data.
  • Collaborate with laboratories and third-party certifiers to secure necessary certifications (e.g., UL, CCMC, Miami-Dade, code compliance reports).
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping for all testing and certification results.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive product documentation, including specifications, test reports, and certifications.
  • Develop and update compliance procedures, checklists, and guidelines for internal teams.
  • Oversee the management of controlled documents.
  • Support the development and implementation of Product Information Management (PIM) systems.
  • Conduct internal audits and support internal teams during external audits.
  • Partner with product development, engineering, and quality assurance teams to integrate compliance into the design and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support to marketing and sales teams to ensure product claims are substantiated and meet advertising standards.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or Applied Science.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or actively pursuing it.
  • 3-5 years of experience in building design and compliance engineering, ideally within the building products or construction industry.
  • Familiarity with product certification processes and testing procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Building Codes and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, CSA, ULC).
  • Experience with US building codes and standards (e.g. ASCE 7, IBC, IRC, FBC).
  • Familiarity with CSA-S136 or AISI-S100 standards is a plus.
  • Project management experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and engage with external regulatory bodies.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in compliance software, Microsoft Office Suite, and document management systems.
  • Bilingual (French / English) is an asset.
  • This position plays a critical role in ensuring that building products adhere to all relevant standards, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance within the construction industry.

Vicwest welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the recruitment and selection process.

How do we win? We win when we care. Care for our people. Care for our products. Care for our planet. Because when we can count on each other, we can count our collaborations as victories. #J-18808-Ljbffr
