The Salvation Army Thrift Store, National Recycling Operations (NRO), is a division of The Salvation Army – the largest non-governmental provider of social services in Canada. We help generate funds to support local programs and services like food banks and homeless shelters while contributing to environmental sustainability through retail and recycling.

Business Analyst is a role that supports NRO’s Planning Team, key stakeholders and strategic projects by gathering, analyzing, and reporting on data, justifying business cases and ensuring organizational alignment, and by supporting teams in developing business cases, plans and recommendations. This role also contributes to achieving project goals and successfully transitioning projects into business operations.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications :

  • Completion of college / university degree program of three (3) academic years in a related field.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum of two year of focused experience in Business Analysis, Business Administration, Project Management or other related fields.
  • Knowledge of project management, Microsoft 365, and other software and programs as required by business needs.
  • Managerial / technical leadership responsibility :

  • Reports directly to NRO’s Director of Planning & Strategic Initiatives.
  • Direct reports for this position : None
  • Job Duties :

  • Work as part of a larger business solutions and project team.
  • Generate reports, perform detailed research and analysis, summarize findings, and assist with solution development.
  • Conduct research and analysis to determine efficiency and effectiveness of projects and business objectives and / or to contribute to project execution and development.
  • Liaise with other departments to coordinate cross-functional data collection and analysis.
  • Prepare more complex analysis, draft presentations and tables.
  • Provide analysis to support stakeholders’ decisions.
  • Gather, analyze, and report on data related to key projects and business objectives.
  • Complete pre-project work to justify business cases and ensure organizational alignment.
  • Assess business operations, document processes and makes recommendations to improve quality and workflow.
  • Support teams and stakeholders in developing business cases, business plans, and proposals or recommendations.
  • Contribute to achieving overall project goals and assist in successfully transitioning projects into business operations.
  • Ensure the department and project teams have the technology and tools to do their jobs effectively.
  • Collaborate on and / or support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Visit project and competitor sites to evaluate and support active projects.
  • May participate in meetings with stakeholders and present analysis and business solutions.
  • May perform Project Coordinator tasks responsibilities and / or other duties as assigned.
  • Business Analyst Skills and Qualifications :

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support the mission and purpose of NRO and The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Commitment to quality customer service.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy.
  • Data entry, spreadsheet, word processing, reporting and presentation skills.
  • Advanced excel and project management software skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct research and analysis, and present summarized findings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability to make and implement effective decisions.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities as required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to meet tight deadlines on multiple projects.

  • Schedule includes typical office hours, with some flexibility.
