Job description
Caring, fun, creative, thoughtful, a good listener, understand Dementia and how to "live in their reality", gentle persuasion tactics.
My 80 yr old mom has Posterior Cortical Atrophy which is a rarer form of Dementia and was diagnosed in 2022.
She is not capable of doing very much on her own and needs lots of guidance, including help in the toilet by way of reminding her how to sit on a toilet the right way, to remember to wipe, and wash her hands after.
She is mobile, but is SLOOOOW. We do have. walker but she doesn't understand how to use it so we feel it would actually be more problematic in falling incidents.
She has had some falls but they generally happen overnight when she is confused in her room.
Mom has a great sense of humour still and loves to have a giggle. We have been lucky that she does not show any aggression or anything like that. She's a very sweet lady.
She lives in an Assisted Living facility and we are on the waitlist for LTC...who knows when that will happen?
We are looking for help on Sunday afternoons (1 : 30-4 : 30) to start.
Things we do with her :
- watch TV (simple TV...she may not be able to follow it, but if you're entertained and laughing, she will be too)
- go to have a coffee in the coffee area of the facility
- participate in the activities of the day (if any)
- ask her to help you fold washcloths (we have about 50 in different colours)
- talk about life
- look at photos (she won't recognize very many people)
- when the weather is nice, go outside and sit in the garden

Likely we would have a quick phone call, then we would meet in person, and on the same day if that goes well, we'd introduce you to mom to see if there's a fit and go from there.
