Job description

Role Overview

Our public sector client is seeking an experienced Mainframe Application Developer / Analyst to support the development, enhancement, maintenance, and analysis of enterprise mainframe applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with NATURAL and ADABAS. Experience with COBOL and DB2 is considered an asset.

Work Mode : % remote

Duration: Until March 31, with a possibility of extension

Candidates must be located in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, test, and maintain mainframe applications using NATURAL and ADABAS.
  • Analyze existing applications, business requirements, and technical specifications to determine appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and modify programs to support new functionality, system enhancements, and evolving business requirements.
  • Troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
  • Support unit, integration, regression, and production testing activities.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and production support for business-critical applications.
  • Review existing code and identify opportunities to improve application performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, program specifications, and system documentation.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, technical teams, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Follow established development, change management, security, and quality standards.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Mainframe Application Developer/Analyst.
  • Extensive development experience with NATURAL.
  • Strong experience with ADABAS.
  • Experience developing, enhancing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise mainframe applications.
  • Strong application analysis, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote environment.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • COBOL development experience.
  • DB2 experience.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical mainframe environments.
  • Previous experience within healthcare, government, or public-sector environments.
  • Experience with legacy application modernization or enhancement initiatives.
