Job description
SMS Equipment is looking for a Service Supervisor to lead and support shop and field service operations at our Williams Lake branch. This role provides hands-on leadership to technicians and welders, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance and repair of heavy mining equipment while delivering strong customer service and operational excellence. Work Location: Williams Lake, BC.
Salary: $115,000 to $120,000 per annum, plus eligibility for overtime.
Work Arrangement: Fixed on site – working from the branch or customer site each day.
Schedule: 5x2 schedule, with flexibility to support operational needs (potential for 7x7 rotation). What You’ll Do
  • Schedule, assign, and coordinate daily work scopes for shop and field technicians, including welding and field service activities.
  • Provide visible safety leadership through toolbox talks, mentorship, and daily reinforcement of safe work practices.
  • Communicate directly with customers to coordinate work, provide progress updates, and align on expectations.
  • Prepare, review, and approve repair quotes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with scope.
  • Oversee work in progress and complete final inspections to ensure quality, safety, and warranty standards are met.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of work orders, service reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with parts, warranty, and administrative teams to support efficient job flow and operational execution.
  • Support technician development through coaching, feedback, and on-the-job guidance in a fast-paced service environment.
What You Bring
The successful candidate will bring a safety-first mindset, combined with strong leadership capability and hands-on technical experience within a mining service environment. You are a confident communicator who can lead crews, support customers, and balance operational priorities. Other requirements include:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the mining industry.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience within a mining or industrial service environment.
  • Journeyperson certification in a relevant trade (Heavy Equipment Technician or similar).
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills to manage shop and field resources effectively.
  • Solid understanding of OH&S regulations, warranty processes, and repair best practices.
  • Customer-focused approach with the ability to manage expectations and resolve issues professionally.
  • Welding experience and strong technical background considered assets.
