Accounts Payable Manager

Our client, Clearwater Seafoods, is one of the world’s largest vertically integrated seafood companies with over 1,900 employees in offices, plants and vessels across the globe. The Canadian company operates from ocean-to-plate, owning its own fishing licenses, vessels and processing facilities, while also providing delivery to its customers worldwide. Clearwater is recognized globally for its superior quality, food safety and diversity of premium wild- caught seafood, including scallops, lobster, langoustine, clams, whelk, shrimp, and crabs.

Since its founding, Clearwater has invested in science, communities, people and technological innovation, as well as resource management to sustain and grow its seafood resource. This commitment has allowed the company to remain a leader in today’s global seafood market and in sustainable seafood excellence. Now, we are thrilled to be partnering with Clearwater looking to bring an Accounts Payable Manager to their team in Bedford for an 18-month term.

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for supporting the Senior Finance Manager across all AP related functions, focused on timely and accurate transaction processing and month end activities. The manager will actively seek to continually identify and implement processes improvement.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Leading the team responsible for the completion of accounts payable transactions and processes.
  • Develop, mentor and coach the accounts payable team.
  • Supporting the Senior Finance Manager in identifying and implementing process improvements in the procure-to-pay process.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Accounting team to find synergies in transaction processing and supporting the strategic initiatives of the company (AP forecasting / analysis, cash management strategies, tracking shareholder transaction, intercompany settlements etc.)
  • Ensuring appropriate payment processes and procedures are followed.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy of invoice processing; reinforce and promote a continuous improvement mindset in the team.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with employees and vendors.
  • Review month-end GL to sub-ledger reconciliations prepared by staff.
  • Co-ordinate and support audit requests related to accounts payable.
  • Investigate and resolve vendor escalations.
  • Issue and utilize regular reporting on KPIs for the department.
  • Other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will possess :

  • Business degree or diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • SAP user knowledge is an asset.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • The Accounts Payable Manager will possess key behavioural competencies (personal characteristics) that include : ability to lead and manage teams; dedicated, hardworking and strong attention to detail; excellent management and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with senior management; strong organizational skills; self-motivated and driven to succeed; ability to teach others and coach for performance; ability to initiate and guide process improvements; flexible in their work schedule and able to work with minimal supervision; must be willing to work in a fast paced and deadline driven team environment; and excellent problem solving skills.
