The Citywide Planning teamis responsible for the management and administration of the Official Community Plan and citywide policies that guide decisions related to housing, development, public space, climate action and community infrastructure.
As a Co-op Student, you will support the team in completing the 10-year Official Community Plan Update and, should the plan be adopted, support the City's transition to the new planning framework as well as early implementation of the plan, including monitoring and evaluation. You will be exposed to many facets of long-range planning, and a variety of topics related to good city building. As British Columbia’s compact, historic, capital city – and the urban core of a growing region on South Vancouver Island – Victoria is an ideal city to learn about and influence progressive planning policies in a rapidly changing world.
This co-op opportunity is for students pursuing a degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Design or Sustainability or a related subject, and interested in a four-month co-op term starting in the fall 2025.
POSITION FUNCTION
As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.
KEY DUTIES
Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.
Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.
Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and / or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and / or next steps.
Assist with identifying and testing new and / or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.
INDEPENDENCE
Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.
Problems are referred to supervisor.

Qualifications
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification :
High School.
Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.
Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.
In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.
Experience
