Reports to : Executive Director

Location : Victoria Sexual Assault Centre office, Cedar Hill Rd

Hours : 28hrs / per week

Work duties primarily Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, some weekend and evening work may be required

Wage : $40 per / hour

Position Summary :

The Prevention Co-Director adopts and promotes the philosophy of the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) and is responsible for co-managing the VSAC Prevention Department including supervision of prevention staff and oversight of programs for youth in education and community outreach with an aim for successful performance of the organization's strategic priorities. The position ensures compliance with all professional standards of practice and agency policies and procedures and acts as an integral member of the VSAC management team.

VSAC is committed to creating intentional spaces for equity-seeking applicants, and this position is rooted in anti-racism and anti-oppressive work. Please note that this is a Bona Fide position, and is open to Women, Trans, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse applicants. We especially invite applicants from Indigenous, ACB (African, Caribbean, and Black), and People of Color communities, persons with disabilities, LGBQ+ persons, Trans and gender diverse persons, and others with lived experience, skills, and knowledge to engage productively with IBPOC and other equity-seeking communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Philosophy

  • Impart a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre's vision, mission, agency goals, policies and priorities.
  • Co-develop and / or maintain a strategic framework for Prevention to support the agency's vision statement and strategic priorities.
  • Co-leads departmental and organizational capacity building.

Building Relationships and Public Relations

  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with education structures, service providers, and community members in the local community to ensure coordinated, effective, quality programming and to reduce barriers for youth to access programs;
  • Connects with local and provincial gender-based violence prevention networks.
  • Develops and engages communication strategies to build relationships and to promote innovative prevention programming.
  • Works collaboratively with the prevention team to foster growth, creativity and mutual support.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, acts as media spokesperson on behalf of the organization.
  • Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders including government agencies, community partners, professional bodies and youth;
  • Human Resource Management

  • Ensure adherence to all requirements of the Employment Standards Act and Regulations, and other Labour Relations best practices in the functional areas of recruitment and selection for Prevention staff, labour relations including collective agreement interpretation, discipline, grievance administration and performance and attendance management.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, ensure that the VSAC Prevention staff comply with relevant laws, regulations, applicable agency policies, and the current collective agreement.
  • Lead and participate in the hiring process for Prevention staff positions.
  • Monitor Prevention staff performance through monthly supervision meetings, team meetings and ongoing feedback, and annual performance appraisals including disciplinary discussions when necessary.
  • Participate in the training, development and supervision of Prevention staff to ensure consistent program excellence and staff wellness.
  • In collaboration with Prevention staff, develop annual work plans.
  • Financial

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, determines program, resource, budgetary, operational and organizational requirements for all new and existing programs within responsibility area.
  • Manages grant monies and reporting for funded projects.
  • Contributes to the research of grant proposals for Prevention funding.
  • Governance

  • Generate reports on Prevention activities for internal and external use.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and management team, plans and develops approaches, methods, policies and procedures within the Agency's governance framework.
  • Program Development

  • Establishes program objectives and performance standards; evaluates programs' operations and activities in terms of over-all effectiveness; implements improvements and modifications as necessary; and adjusts over-all goals and objectives in response to program directives and / or needs in conjunction with Prevention staff.
  • Researches and continuously builds knowledge of best practices, trends and developments in community and education areas of responsibility.
  • Facilities and Administration

  • Fosters a safe and healthy workplace for all employees and volunteers with attention to the emotional labour required when working in trauma and with an anti-oppressive lens.

  • QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education, Training and Experience

  • Degree in social work, child and youth care, education, or equivalent experience and training;
  • At least five years of experience in the field of gender-based violence and / or trauma.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in community and program development.
  • Demonstrated computer competency including familiarity with spreadsheets, databases and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget.
  • Public speaking experience an asset.
  • Experience with participatory action research and evaluation an asset.
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Leadership skills to motivate participation and cooperation of various groups and individuals.
  • Analysis of issues impacting under-served marginalized communities, including youth, BIPOC and gender diverse communities, informed by anti-oppressive and social justice practices;
  • Extensive working knowledge of issues related to sexualized violence, trauma-informed practice, community-based programming and services, applicable legislation and building community relationships.
  • Human-centered and empathic leadership to facilitate participation and collaboration of various groups of individuals.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills; well-developed planning, organizing and administrative skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and database programs.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
