Position Description

Are you seeking a remote opportunity working in a fast-paced team-based multi-disciplined environment? While collaborating with others, the Junior Designer will contribute to the creation or revisions of 3D or 2D functional or detail / production models or drawings for ship, vessel, and boat design / fabrication.

This position is contingent upon your eligibility to obtain a Reliability Status level clearance.

Serco supports multiple customers including shipyards in developing 3D Product Models and detail ship design leading to construction and ultimately delivery of ships.

You will be part of a member team working for a Design Lead that works closely with the customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality systems.

In this role, you will :

  • Contribute to the creation or revisions of 3D or 2D functional or detail / production models or drawings for ship, vessel, and boat design / fabrication in the following disciplines :
  • Hull and primary structural detail design and / or secondary structural steel outfitting detail design. (hot work)
  • Mechanical equipment and distributed systems outfit (pipe, and / or HVAC and / or electrical / cable) detail design. (cold work)
  • Joiner outfitting, general equipment, and interior space arrangements detail design.
  • Develop positive working relationships with all team members and facilitate clear and timely communication and exchange of information.
  • Ensure that drawings and manufacturing information are generated in accordance with Serco and client standards, quality, and engineering processes.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you will have :

  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years of 3D modeling design or 2D drafting experience in marine environments.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status clearance. (Canadian Citizenship is required)
  • Experience with commercial vessel or Coast Guard or Naval type vessels.
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and Navisworks. Expertise with 3D software such as Rhino, Solidworks, or Inventor.
  • Knowledge and / or experience with Ship design 3D modeling and 2D drafting tools such as ShipConstructor, AVEVA Marine / Tribon / PDMS, or others such as NAPA, Foran, Cadmatic, Catia, and Smart3D.
  • Ability to turn engineering specifications and classification society requirements, sketches, yard fabrication standards, etc., into end-state functional and detail 3D models and 2D drawings without limited supervision.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Must have the skills to review, self-check, and check others' work to comply with such requirements.
  • Must have competence in the use of MS Outlook, Word, and Excel and familiarity working in a networked PC environment.
  • Work independently and in collaboration with others as and when needed while following standardized procedures and work instructions.
  • Additional desired experience and skills :

  • Have a College Diploma or higher education in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or similar marine technical field.
  • Possessing a Canadian Security Clearance (Reliability / Controlled Goods or higher).
