How You Will Make an Impact

  • The primary responsibility of this role at Good Shepherd Centre's involves upholding the organization's mission, vision, and values in all aspects of work. The job requires the delivery of dignified, culturally competent service within an anti-racism / anti-oppression framework. The candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team, responsible for providing quality nursing care.
  • This includes collecting and analyzing data about residents' physical and psycho-social status, formulating nursing diagnoses based on scientific knowledge, planning and implementing care interventions, and evaluating patient responses. The role also entails responding professionally under high-pressure situations, maintaining focus during frequent interruptions, and continually adjusting priorities.
  • Key duties also include meticulous documentation of all patient-related information, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and confidentiality protocols. Effective communication with team members and coordinating appropriate interventions is crucial.
  • The role involves educating patients and staff, assisting physicians, administering medication, and evaluating patient responses to treatments. The candidate must maintain knowledge of equipment and supplies, manage resources prudently, and provide leadership to various staff members. In the absence of the Program Manager, responsibilities expand to include referral coordination, discharge planning, and ensuring seamless patient admissions.
  • Professional development through continuing education and adherence to ethical standards is required. The role also necessitates attending staff meetings, adhering to organizational policies, working rotating shifts as scheduled, and performing additional duties as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and currently authorized to practice in the province of Ontario with at least 3 years of current clinical practice, knowledge and experience in this sector.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission and values of Responsibility, Availability, Hospitality, Adaptability, Quality and Dignity.
  • Ability to be creative and flexible in achieving desired outcomes, work well in a new and changing environment and promote progressive / innovative thinking as well as team approach to care.
  • Must have the ability to maintain a feeling of welcoming, peace and comfort in dealings with clients / public / volunteers / staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • To respect and follow the patient's choices and decisions regarding their multiple and often complex needs while providing personalized care and to take a harm reduction approach as needed.
  • To respond to each patient / family / staff / visitor with compassion, respect, a non-judgmental attitude, always maintaining the dignity of the person.
  • Awareness of one's own limitations and strengths in emotionally sensitive situations and ability to react calmly and effectively and to personally be able to deal with the stress involved in providing care for patients experiencing acute or chronic medical conditions as well as addictions and mental health issues.
  • Have knowledge of, and be sensitive to lifestyle choices, harm reduction practices, religious, ethnic and cultural diversity.
  • Knowledge of biological, physical, and behavioral sciences.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Must have good communication skills both verbally and non-verbally, and the ability to deal with people in crisis in a mature and non-judgmental manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to take and remain current in the following mandatory courses WHIMIS and CPR
