The United Church of Canada is seeking individuals interested in applying for a Canadian Foodgrains Bank Food Security Learning Tour to Zimbabwe and Mozambique to learn about hunger, food security, and the cultures and history of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Participants will meet with partners leading projects in Zimbabwe and Mozambique during this trip, including United Church partner, Zimbabwe Council of Churches. The United Church of Canada is a member of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB).
Food Security Learning Tours are opportunities to see firsthand how CFGB supports projects promoting food security for families and communities, as well as learn more about Canada's global role supporting agricultural and food security. This learning tour is for any citizen or permanent resident of Canada who is 20 years or older who is passionate about learning more about global food security and humanitarian crises and being equipped with knowledge and skills to share with others and inspire them to take action.
The program will run for 12-14 days between March 14-30, 2024. Exact dates to be determined later.
You can read more on their website.
The goals of CFGB Learning Tours :
- To facilitate learning about global food security and humanitarian crises, and equip participants to share that learning with other Canadians.
- To build solidarity by providing opportunities for tour participants, staff, and their hosts to connect in a meaningful way.
To build awareness of and appreciation for member programming by introducing participants to Foodgrains Bank members and their partners.
The advertised cost for the trip is approximately $4,500. Cost includes in-country costs, airfare, visas, accommodation, and all other expenses EXCEPT travel health consult, vaccinations, incidental costs, meals during international travel, and any personal gifts. Partial subsidies may be available to United Church members who apply. If you wish to be considered for a subsidy, please indicate this in your online application. A $2000 deposit will be required by CFGB to secure a spot once the application is approved. If accepted, the United Church of Canada will be in touch regarding the amount of the subsidy, and if needed, can suggest ways to raise additional funds.
