We are looking for a Chief Engineer to join our team!

Job Description

As the Chief Engineer, you have the authority to oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the property. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of the infrastructure, while also managing a team of maintenance personnel. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments to maintain high standards of service and guest satisfaction. Key Focuses

Maintenance Management

  • Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC, elevators, kitchen equipment, and guestroom amenities.
  • Conducts regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify issues and ensures compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Coordinates repairs, upgrades, and replacements as needed to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventory, and service contracts.

Team Leadership

  • Recruits, trains, and manages the Maintenance Team.
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure high levels of productivity, professionalism, and job satisfaction.
  • Budget Management

  • Develops and manages the departmental budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Provides commentary on the performance of their area(s) daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Identifies cost-saving opportunities and implements strategies to improve operational efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
  • Project Management

  • Oversees capital improvement projects, renovations, and equipment installations from planning through completion.
  • Coordinates with external vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
  • Evaluates new technologies and solutions to enhance the property's infrastructure and guest experience.
  • Safety and Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards related to building maintenance, fire safety, and environmental health.
  • Implements safety training programs and emergency response procedures to protect guests, employees, and property assets.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests promptly and conducts regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks.

  • Experience / Passions / Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering or maintenance management, preferably in a hospitality or hotel environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Working Conditions

    This position may work long days and / or weekends to meet periodic upturns in business demands or meet deadlines. The Chief Engineer is expected to be on call for emergencies and must be able to respond to emergencies when not on site. This position is set in a fast-paced environment that requires continuous physical movement and the ability to manage multiple sequences and demands. This position will require periods of independent work, the ability to lift to 75 lbs., and exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
