The Volunteer’s Role

Join us in empowering our partner, the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation by enhancing their communication systems to boost the visibility of their impactful programs.

We’re looking for a passionate volunteer like you to play a key role in managing and elevating the Foundation’s communications, including social media engagement.

As a volunteer, you’ll dive into a variety of exciting communication activities such as social media management, website oversight, public relations, and creating compelling content. You’ll also help develop branding guidelines and materials that truly represent the Foundation’s mission.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to assess current communication strengths, uncover new opportunities, and identify gaps, helping to shape and improve the Foundation’s communication strategies for greater impact.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Assist in establishing a vibrant social media presence by creating materials and distributing content across various social platforms to enhance audience engagement.
  • Assist the team with the design, development, and publication of website content, which includes creating, managing, and maintaining material for the website, newsletter, blog, and other channels.
  • Plan and execute training sessions for staff on innovative communication methods by developing training manuals and leading sessions for team members.
  • Contribute to the team’s public relations initiatives, including the successful completion of activities such as compiling annual reports.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.

Essential Background:

  • Assist in maintaining an active social media presence, including the creation of artwork.
  • Assist the team in designing, developing, and posting content on the website.
  • Assist in training staff on innovative communication strategies and techniques.
  • Assist the team with general public relations activities, including preparing annual reports.

Volunteer Support and Requirements

Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

  • Monthly living allowance
  • Accommodation
  • Health insurance (including required vaccinations and antimalarial medication)
  • Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit costs
  • Pre-placement, in-country and reintegration training (along with access to self-directed materials and online resources)

  • Access to the Employee Assistance Program during and after placement

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to:

  • Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference
  • Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview
  • Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure
  • Comply with anti-terrorism checks
  • Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct

Residency and Citizenship: Candidates are responsible for confirming how volunteering internationally may affect their citizenship or residency status. Canadian Permanent Residents should verify requirements with Immigration Canada before travel.
