Job description

Located on Vancouver’s North Shore mountains, the District of North Vancouver (District) is one of BC’s most attractive and livable communities. With naturally beautiful surroundings, high quality of life and proximity to downtown Vancouver, the District is one of Canada’s most desirable places to live, work, play and raise a family. The District has been recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers, is known for its vibrant local communities, and is famed for its world class recreation and tourism. The combination of unique geography and location offers the benefits of being part of a dynamic metropolitan region while living next door to a vast natural wilderness.

The Opportunity

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) serves as the most senior executive for the District of North Vancouver, responsible for overseeing all aspects of government administration, financial management and human resources functions. Reporting directly to the Mayor and Council, the CAO provides strategic leadership to ensure the effective delivery of municipal programs and services while aligning operations with the District’s long-term vision and priorities. This role fosters collaboration between Council, staff and the community to drive innovation, operational excellence and sustainable growth. The CAO plays a key role in shaping policy direction, implementing Council decisions and ensuring transparency and accountability in municipal governance. As a member of the Metro Vancouver Regional District, the CAO works closely with other municipalities and plays a leadership role on a number of region-wide committees.

The preferred candidate will bring a demonstrated track record of success in a senior leadership position within a progressive local government or other public sector organization of comparable complexity. Equipped with outstanding leadership skills, the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the current political landscape, municipal operations and governance, as well as superior interpersonal abilities with a track record of building and sustaining a positive corporate culture through positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including First Nations, municipal partners, and other agencies. This role is ideally suited to municipal leaders with a penchant for innovation and a track record of building organizational resilience.

For more information, please contact Brent Cameron, Lisa Kershaw or Jillian Berg at jberg@boyden.com.

The current salary range for the position is $295,000-$330,000, plus benefits and pension. Consideration will be given to the candidate’s background and experience when establishing the final salary.

We thank all applicants for their interest in this position. Please note that we will only be in contact with those individuals moving forward with our client.
