Elections BC (EBC) is looking for local leaders to serve asDistrict Electoral Officers (DEOs)andDeputy District Electoral Officers (DDEOs)throughout the province.
DEOs and DDEOs plan for, manage, and administer provincial general elections, by-elections and other events. As a local representative of the Chief Electoral Officer in their assigned electoral district, DEOs and DDEOs ensure there is an impartial and fair election that is accessible and inclusive for voters and other stakeholders. In delivering EBC’s mandate, they are role models of EBC’s values, ethics, and behaviours, and must always represent EBC positively. They must establish and maintain decorum and a positive, responsive, transparent and accountable culture.
The most recent provincial general election in B.C. took place in October 2024. While general elections are scheduled every four years, they can occur before a scheduled date. By-elections and other on-demand electoral events may also be held at any time. DEOs and DDEOs ensure that EBC is continually ready to deliver any electoral event in their electoral district when required.
The work of a DEO or DDEO requires broad management experience; strong planning and organizing skills; comfort with computer technology and office automation; expertise in material, human and financial resources management; and experience leading a diverse workforce. DEOs and DDEOs must have solid project management skills, excellent judgment, and stamina to complete all the tasks of an election within a very short and legislated timeframe. In return, the work is varied, challenging and highly rewarding.
DEO and DDEO opportunities appeal to applicants who can commit part-time hours towards event readiness, have the energy and flexibility to work more than full-time during an election period, and want to contribute to democracy by leading a diverse team towards a shared goal – an accessible and fair election.
Elections BC is an independent, non-partisan Office of the Legislature responsible for administering electoral processes in British Columbia in accordance with the Election Act, Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, Recall and Initiative Act, and Referendum Act.
For complete details on this opportunity, and to apply, please review the job posting on the Elections BC website at www.elections.bc.ca / jobs.
